The key laboratory was subordinated to theEndemic Institute of School of  Public Health in Xi'an Jiaotong University. The Endemic Institute, which is one of the research characteristic subjects in the university, is a comprehensive research institution. The institute has more than 300experimental apparatus and contains the research platforms on the trace elements and endemic diseases,the clinical epidemiology and prevention, molecularbiology, animal model, ChinaWestern nutrient and health message platform and the Collaborative Innovation Center of Endemic Diseases and Health Promotion in Silk Road Region.

The major research fields as follows：

（1）The relationship between endemic diseases and trace elements；

（2）The molecular pathogenesis and etiology of endemic diseases；

（3）The endemic disease control and surveillance；

（4）The micro-nutrients and health promotion.

Recently, the key laboratory have obtained the significant achievements in the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and prevention of endemic diseases and people health for the serious endemic diseases such as Kashin-Beck disease，Keshan disease and etc based on the target to improve the people's health level and quality of the population according to the international forefront of development of medical and life sciences.

During last 5 years，the key laboratory have obtained 25 projects with 29.87million CMB yuan from the Key Program，General Program and Youth Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as the International Cooperation and Provincial and Ministerial levels. Meanwhile, the key laboratory have published 135 academic papers, including 70 papers included in the SCI Journals, received four awards from the Provincial and ministerial Science and Technology and award for one national invention-patent.

The laboratory consists of 30 fixed staffs including 26 researchers and 4 technicians. Among the researchers, there are 20 senior professors,12 doctoral supervisors, 21 master supervisors, 23 doctoral degrees, and 11 researchers have been to study and cooperate in the international famous laboratories. During the last five years, the key laboratory have trained 69 Ph.D and postgraduate students, andresearchers from Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Jilin, Guangxi and other provinces in China.It has trained a large number of talents urgently needed in the scientific and technology for endemic diseases at all levels of provinces, cities and counties, promoted the development of the prevention, controlling and treatment for endemic diseases, and maintained the leading position of the key laboratories in the endemic scientific research areas.
